I attended part two of the discussion panel comprised of Professor Lucas, Professor Deutchman, and Professor Johnson. I enjoyed it very much and learned something new from all three professors. Obviously the main discussion focused around this year's election and campaigns.
Professor Johnson addressed several issues. Some being the Bradley Affect, anti-Palin sentiment, Obama campaign strategies, and the Joe Plumber controversy. All playing important roles right now, I felt the Bradley Effect to be the most interesting. The Bradley Effect refers to the voting behavior of Caucasians in the actual voting booth. It is the act of them behaving different in their vote than anticipated. Or in other words a sudden change of mind overcomes them. This effect also includes the tendency of voters to lie when asked if they support an African American candidate which creates a hub of support that actually isn't there. This term stemmed from California's 1982 governor's race of Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley.
Professor Deutchman focused on the millennial generation and the effects they may have on the election. This topic in particular relates to our class discussions. The millenials are being carefully scrutinized because never has the youth presence been so great until this election. Will they have lasting effects or just drop off the face of the Earth after the election? Deutchman also discussed the amount of damage George Bush has put upon the Republican party. Some being long term effects.
Professor Lucas examined the Democratic party and the potential of it being a good year for the dems. It is likely for a positive outlook on the year for the dems. Specific states to watch out for; Virginia, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina. Lastly Lucas left us with some of his personal predictions of the number breakdown for the election results.
