The Google Revolution!
As I read through chapter four, Icommerce of Ispy, I was intrigued by the detail noted on what Google's agenda is. As we discussed in class and up until recently I was not aware that google had the ability to sift through email exchanges in order to personalize their advertisements. Maybe I did not thoroughly read through the agreement when signing up for my gmail account or for that matter, does anyone actually read those agreements word for word. Andrejevic specifically discusses how the info is obtained and who is doing the obtaining. As google states, it is a computer generated system that scans though emails and not a human effort. I guess this is the part that is suppose to make the concerned consumer feel better. However should that really make you more comfortable? What is that to say about any other personal exchanges over the internet? Just because it is a computer to computer monitoring system does not fully justify the actions. Maybe I should read the AOL email agreement more carefully now that I know googles.
